Thuru Lodge Private Game Reserve forms part of the Kalahari, consisting of appoximately 25 000 acres owned by Wessel and Adri van Wyk. The Game Reserve has a very unique variety of vegetation types, which broadly classified into Nama Karoo, Kalahari and Karoo mountain vegetation. This wide range of veld types creates a rich biodiversity, which provide suitable habitats for a wide variety of fauna and flora.
The 25 000 acre Thuru Lodge Private Game Ranch and Lodge is located in the Northern Cape Province appoximately 100 km south east of the town Upington, between the southern latitudes 28°53' and 28°59' and the eastern longitudes 21°42' and 21°49' in the Nama Karoo Biome.
Clients visiting our Reserve in South Africa need to book their international flights into Johannesburg and a one hour link to Upington. Remember, the Northern Cape is the safest region in South Africa and is also malaria free.

Clients will be met by our lodge personnel at Upington airport. Leaving Upington, your Kalahari experience begins 10km before reaching the town Grobblershoop, when we leave the tarmac road for the last 10 minutes' journey before reaching 'Thuru Lodge'. For the utmost convenience you can fly by charter plane direct to Thuru. A luxury vehicle will take you to a friendly welcome at the lodge.
The 8 luxurious air conditioned double rooms with crisp white linen have spacious en-suite bathrooms, satellite TV and internet, telephone, minibars, under floor heating.

The runway is 1000m long and 30m wide and it is gravel in very good condition, however it may be slippery after rain. Prior permission is required to land and indemnity forms to be signed before-hand and faxed to Thuru Lodge.
Also to call ahead by telephone to advise ETA. Fuel available at FAUP and pilots should check AIP's for times.
FAUP is 41Nm NW of Thuru Lodge.
Caution: The runway is situated in a mountainous area and pilots should overfly the field at a safe altitude on first approaching. Animals might be on the runway. Nearby to the lodge is a Radio Mast to the North West of the airstrip: 915 ft AGL, Base 4003 ft, Top 4918 ft. |
